2005 malibu brakes.

My old car 99 malibu the drum brakes i could press all the way down and id stop pretty well. I got my 05 I never noticed it before til i was driving in rain one day and i stepped on it. There was some fierce grinding or something it sounded rough, so took it in 600$ repair job like usual they said pads were wearing normally.

Now I had to step on it the other day, and I had the same problem. Everything new no rain whats the problem did they even do anything to my brakes?

Re: 2005 malibu brakes.

That grinding type noise you heard during hard braking in the rain is 100% perfectly normal ABS activation. Most any car equipped with ABS will give the same feedback and noise under those conditions. So yes, you basically had $600 stolen from you. If you can't do you own brake work, be very cautious in regards to who you go to.

ABS won't always work 100% if the brake pads, rotors, drums and shoes are worn too much. Another factor with ABS is the tire tread.

I just had new rotors/ceramic pads/fluid flush and adjust/clean rear brakes at Firestone for $357. which I thought was a pretty good price.

That's not bad. You could DIY for well under $150 for the fronts. Typical dealer brake job charge in my area is $500/axle. Absolutely insane.
