Re: 99 z71 door locks

I'm almost 100% positive that that is the way that the are designed to work.

Yeah, pretty sure thats how they're designed. I bet when you shut off the truck, and take the key out, THEN they unlock. At least, thats what mine are like.

Re: 99 z71 door locks

I use to own a '99 Silverado and thats exactly how mine operated dumbest thing I've ever seen and I'm pretty sure you're stuck with it too. You might want to check in the manual and see if there is a procedure for changing the lock/unlock operation like the '03 and up trucks but I doubt you can. Also I was told at one time that the computer could be programmed at the dealer to change how the truck locks, however I'm unsure if thats true.

Re: 99 z71 door locks

I work at a GMC Dealership & just purchased a 99 Chevy Ext. Cab trade in. I ask the service manager to look at it & re-program the locks to open when the ignition turns off or the key is removed & he told me that unfortunately with the 99 model that wasn't an option. Looks like we are stuck with it.

Re: 99 z71 door locks

I know in the 2000 trucks there are 4 settings you can change the lock configuration. may have been something they added in 2000.

You can add a remote starter. that will change the lock and unlock programming
