i just bought a 87 4.3 5 speed astro cargo work van.and its running realy rought.it acts like its not running on all 6 cylinders.it bogs and backfires and realy bucks when you try to drive it.ive replaced the cap rotor wires and plugs.two of the old plugs were realy bad the worst ive seen totaly carbon build up no gap left.they looked like factory plugs,the cap points were all rusty inside too.i havnt checked compression yet or timming.i did adjust distribitor and got it running a little better.but not drivable yet.im geting good fuel out the injectors.and checked spark with test light got spark from all wires and coil.im going to run some test with the volt meter tommarrow.im new to the chevy 4.3 any help would be great.thanks tjfoleyjr27

well i finally got her running pretty good today.i changed the fuel filter and that made the bigest difference.i also changed plugs wires cap and rotor and cleaned the throttle body and adjusted the timming.guess just needed a good tune up.also changed the oil while i was at it.now i can work on customizing it.it allready has the visor,grill,fiberglass running boards.im going to do a two tone paint job with tribal where the two colors meet.and put a rear bench and a system should look good when im done.it dont look bad now it has no rust at all not even on the undercarage realy pretty clean for an 87 cargo van.
