Malibu ticking sound?reazb 08-26-2007, 03:42 PM I searched the site but could not find any topic that was similar to my problem although it seems that some people have the same ticking issue but with different result. I replaced the alternator on my 2000 Malibu after the battery light started to come on for a few seconds at around 40k when driving. This started after I replace the original battery with a Canadian Tire one. After replacing the alternator I now hear a ticking sound which would get louder as I drive. The mechanic said it was the drive belt, which I had replaced about 2 years ago. They added some grease, or something, to the belt which eliminated the noise when the car is in neutral. Now when I drive I can hear the ticking sound again. Does this sound like the alternator is bad or is it the belt? There is a GM Technical Service Bulletin 01-06-01-005. Is this the same problem I’m having? Any help would be appreciated. Ian Szgatti 08-27-2007, 08:34 PM I work in a shop, and i can tell you that if you have a noise, and do something to make the noise go away, chances a very good you've found the problem... change your belt. Speedy_1234 08-30-2007, 09:01 AM Check the belt see how it is worn some cause might be from a pully that is damage or is about to stop moving xeroinfinity 08-30-2007, 09:31 AM the stock belts are noisy... might try the good year gatorback they are not that much more then a stock belt and should last longer with no noise... that is if nothing else is causing your issue(s). .... just my :2cents: Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
