Coolant in 02 Ram

I have an '02 Ram w/ 360 ... The Coolant in it is Orange in color and has been orange from the factory ... I need to add some, is it anything special or can I simply add anything??

The reason I need to add some is because there is a small leak behind the timing chain cover and I have not had a chance to pull everything out to fix it .... I plan to see if I can put something on it externally without pulling the whole front of the truck apart to get to it ... it that works, great.. if not I'll be ripping it all apart... but in the meantime, I need to add some coolant and don't want to put in something incorrect.

Thanks!
Jon

Re: Coolant in 02 Ram

You can either go to a dodge dealer and get the factory coolant (to me it is more of a red color not orange) Or you can go to walmart and get a yellow coolant and mix that. Just DO NOT add green to it that will not mix up well. What I did a few months after I bought my truck I took it to a shop and had them clean my entire system out of whatever was in it and had them put in green. I found its a lot easier to get hands on green coolant than anything else. Oh If you buy the coolant from the dodge dealer it is not dilluted make sure to mix 50/50 with water.

Re: Coolant in 02 Ram

The coolent for your year is yellow. Dodge had problems with the green eating the aluminum parts that is why they went to the yellow. Fix your leak and flush your cooling system. It is time and use yellow. The few bucks you save on green will come back and bite you.

green coolant is 3 year , red is 5 year and has a silicone in it the green does not dont mix the two or just add some water and get it fixed asap then flush the cooling system and stick with the red
