Monterey 2007

Does anyone know if any F1s were in Monterey at any of the
events this year? I know last year SVAG sold the yellow one at auction
and now it is white. I have not heard of a single one being there in
2007 but I could be very wrong. If there was one and anyone
has pics do post them here if you can.

thanks in advance

Re: Monterey 2007

I have just returned from Monterey and as far as i am aware, there were no F1s in the area. I say as far as im aware as it is such a large occassion over so many different areas and events that no body gets to see everything. Though i am 95% certain there was no F1 activity this year. Sorry!

Well a quick sum up includes those you have listed also 5 Veyrons over 15 Countach, about 5 Miuras, too many Diablos and Murcielagos to count! XJ220, SLR 722, 2 Saleen S7, various F40s, an Enzo and a huge amount of classics such as 250 California, Aston Zagato etc etc. Didnt see the DBS.

Re: Monterey 2007

It appears Don Wallace's CLK-GTR was up at auction although there is conflicting info on RM's website. Don's car is the #1 chassis and is a silver SuperSport version (I have a photo of the chassis plaque). However, the description of the car for sale is also #1 and a silver SuperSport, but it says the other SuperSport is #17 and resides in South Florida (technically Don Wallace lives in Tampa, which is pretty much central FL). Seems odd since he really only collects the first and last cars. He had the 1st MC12, 1st Veyron in US, 1st CLK-GTR, last Enzo (Pope), and one of the last road F1s.

Re: Monterey 2007

Gerd Petrik has (or had?) a CLK GTR in his collection - maybe that is the other Florida car being referenced. I am only speculating as I don't have much knowledge on any specific CLK GTR

He's in the Sarasota/Venice area which isn't really South Florida either...?

Re: Monterey 2007

It was Mr Wallace's car that was up for auction, it does have a supersport engine and is car number one. It did not sell however. I spoke to the Mercedes benz man, responsible for all the CLK GTRs and he confirmed that the 'real' Supersport is in Florida. Also that there are three in the U.S. Those being Mr Wallaces, Gerds (i presume) and the Supersport. Interestingly he told me that if a Californian wanted one that it could be done legally, to meet thier emmissions standards and with no loss of Horse power!?

by the way what is the best place for monterey pics, as i know this is the F1 thread area?

Right, Gerd is in Osprey, which is a little south of Sarasota/Bradenton on the west coast of Florida. The weird thing is, Don's CLK-GTR has the mirrors mounted on the a-pillars whereas every other CLK-GTR has them mounted on the front fenders (including Gerd's). Everything about this car screams Don Wallace's, but I've never heard of Gerd's being a SS as well. I saw his car in like 2001 and it was a normal CLK-GTR. The red SuperSport was still red and for sale by Auto Salon at that time so it's weird...

Here's a little detective work, Peloton style.

Red SS that was for sale at Auto-Salon-Singen. Shows #17 of 25. Notice mirror location, roof antenna, lack of turn signal next to door:

Silver SS that was for sale at Auto-Salon-Singen. Notice same mirror location, badging, roof antenna, and no turn signal next to door:

Silver SS at Monterey that was being auction off. Notice mirror location on the A-pillar, lack of badging, no roof antenna, and it has a turn signal next to the door:

Silver (they told me SS) at Celebration. Don Wallace's. Notice mirror location and lack of roof antenna, but it has turn signal next to the door:

Don's CLK-GTR at the Tampa show. Notice the mirrors again. Pic of the chassis plaque. No roof antenna, but has turn signal next to the door:

And just to compare to Gerd's. Notice side mirrors and lack of SS badges compared to the silver at Auto-Salon. No roof antenna and it has the turn signal:
At Mt. Dora:
At Winter Park:

So it appears Don is selling his CLK-GTR. I know he sold his MC12 a while back. Does this mean his F1 will be going up for sale soon?

Re: Monterey 2007

Mr Wallaces car has a supersport grade engine that was 'retrofitted' at the factory. The red car with tan laether, shown above was originally supplied with a supersport engine and as such is regarded as the true Supersport, it was resprayed silver and had dark leather fitted, and is the same car resold later at Auto salon singen also shown above, as the Mercedes man told me. So basically there are two Supersport engined cars, one real, the other Mr Wallaces.
