Exclamation Gas Gauage Issue

Ok well I just fixed the fuel leak on my 1996 tracker and now I have at least a half tank of gas in it. The problem is the gas gauage is below empty and never seems to rise. The car sat around for awhile and mice had made a nest in the vents for the heat but they are gone now. Is it possible that a mouse had chewed through the wire to the gas tank? Or could it possibly be a fuse or just a loose wire and if it is a loose wire where is the wire most likely located at? All help is appreciated.
