i got ?s do you guys have answers...ZRYDERVR4 08-11-2007, 01:20 PM just wondering what gas mileage do you v6 guys get. are they really high maintenance. oh the ones i'm look for answers from are the last gen firebirds/camaros and manual trans. and is there any diffirences between the years like maybe somthing kept breaking in the 99s so in 2000s they changed the thing that kept breaking... malletslinger 08-12-2007, 02:15 AM You can look up this info here: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm Hope you find what you're lookin for izzydjinn 08-12-2007, 02:34 AM sup bro. I remember that the '93-97' bird/trans am had a lot of transmission problems, maybe was a few here and there but thats what ive heard. Now I check on the consumer auto report mag. and the rating on that matter was a half circle (their rating sys). Now on that '98-'02 models my guess is that they got all those problems since I have a 2000 V6 5 spd. w/150,xxx and havent had any problems (thank God) since im tight on cash right now. Although since I got the car, when going on reverse, of course it sounds like an import (trans. sound) weird but once you let go of the gas pedal, that same sound it does starts to make a skipping sound, like I said....weird. But no problems at all. CreepingDeath94 08-12-2007, 10:47 AM I had a '98 V6 bird and I remember it getting very good gas mileage, even in town. I drove it once long distance on the interstate to Kentucky from Florida and back it got a lot better than even my 4 cylinder pickup would have. I don't know exactly what my mileage was though, but it had to have been around 25-28 to get the mileage out of the tank. I just never actually calculated it. It was a quick car too and still got the good mileage. Anyway, as far as problems, nothing really sticks out on the V6 except maybe the intake or head gaskets had a problem here and there for a while, but I personally never heard of anyone I know having issue. The replacement of the spark plugs and wires is a pretty big pain that has to be done from under the car on half the plugs. And of course the biggest common problem being the headlight motors. Every firebird at some point loses these things and either one or both motors crap out and you're driving around with both or one up all the time. Mine was a 5 speed though, so I don't know about the auto tranny. The manual was just fine even at high miles. I think it will all depend on who you buy the car from and what kind of miles are on it. If it has high miles and was driven by a person who obviously didn't maintain it and beat on it daily than you're going to have problems no matter what car you buy. If it was pretty evidently taken care of and maintained than you should be fine. They seem to be pretty tough cars from all that I have seen. Only issues always tend to be nickel and dime crap like sensors and what not that are typical in any GM.
