Ford Explorer Sport Trac 2005itchypalmer 08-10-2007, 04:19 PM I was driving home yesterday and my engine light started blinking and when I pressed the gas, the RPMs would not climb so I pulled over to check my hoses. I turned the engine off and popped the hood, and checked the hoses. Everything looked fine so I got back in the car and tried to start it. The engine would not start. I called roadside assistance and they towed my truck to the service dept. The next day, the service dept called me and said that the engine was hyrdolocked.... I don't know what that means exactly so I looked it up. Fuild in the engine block, most of the time, its water - sometimes coolant, oil, etc. I don't see how I could have gotten a fuild in the block at all. I maintain the truck regularly and never had a problem with it until yesterday. The engine only has 25000 miles on it!!! I never drove through high water, in fact, it hasn't rained here in 2 weeks. heh. How can this happen? I sure hope it is covered under my warranty (36,000m) but I've read some sites that say hyrdolock is a driver inflected issue. I drive this truck just like I drive all my other cars so I'm not sure what might have happened. I asked the service center if it would be covered and they said that if there was a problem, I would be contacted. they didn't know what caused it exactly yet because they hadn't disassembled it compeltely but that I "blew a spark plug" - Not sure what thats all about... Any thoughts?? is this common?? I'm not sure what to think but I'm nervous because replacing the whole engine sounds dramatic considering the truck was working fine prior and had only 25000 miles on it.:shakehead denisb 08-12-2007, 09:48 PM I can't really see any way you could hydrolock an engine without entering water/liquid in through the intake. A massive headgasket leak would be my only longshot at hydrolocking and I'm not even sure that this would be physically possible. marquis00 08-13-2007, 09:26 PM blinking check engine light on acceleration indicates engine misfire itchypalmer 08-13-2007, 10:03 PM blinking check engine light on acceleration indicates engine misfire Yeah I've read in the manual. Ford said it was hrydrolocked. I just don't see how unless it was a gasket failure because its never had a way water could get in since the air intake was on tight and its very high in the sport trac. Oh well.. I'm supposed to pick it up tomorrow after an engine replacement - they said they'd call me before if there was a warranty issue and I never got that call so we will see what they say. Not feeling very good about these Fords... Can't say people didnt try to worn me... :banghead: Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
