Exclamation 93 cutlass 3.1 Oil found floating in Radiator

93 cutlass supreme sl 3.1. Found oil floating in the radiator. Anyone have any clue what might be the cause of this. I was thinking oil cooler. Im not really sure if there is one on it. I just bought the car a week ago. Or I was thinking tranny fluid? Few people have told me possible head gasket but normally with a gasket there is water in the oil and I have not found any. Any help would be great. Thanks...

Re: 93 cutlass 3.1 Oil found floating in Radiator

Probably engine oil - I had to replace the intake manifold gaskets - easier and less expensive than the head gasket set, which I initially thought it would be (thanks Nicky!) - I'm told this is a common problem on these engines. Autozone's Vehicle Repair Guides (free online at www.autozone.com) probalby has all the info you need to do this

Intake gaskets aren't a common problem on the 3.1s...only the 3100s. It's also unlikely that your 3.1 has an oil cooler. Most didn't. It could be transmission fluid, but I doubt it. Is your transmission fluid low?

cracked head gasket, cracked head, cracked block, those are the 3 most likely problems.

Unhappy

I have a 95 3.1L with the same problem. Oil in the radiator resevior, but no radiator fluid in the oil. I'm taking it in to be looked at in the next few weeks. I'll let you know what they find. I'm guessing the intake manifold gasket. (Also, 3.1L can also be called 3100cc)

Head gasket - Nope.... It was the lower intake gasket. bad design, very little support at the ends of the gasket. runs great now.
