Radio won't work. Can anyone explain why?

Hello,

I bought a 93' Chevy. It came with a JVC cx-99 12 disc changer and a ch-rf40 controller. When I bought it the radio, cd controller, and the clock didn't work. The guy said chances are it is a fuse. I got the controller to work for the cd changer and it plays cds, but I can't get any volume to come out of the speakers and the buttons for the radio won't do anything. It acts as if the radio is locked. The clock on displays 1:00 and all I can get the radio to do is turn on and off. Am I missing something simple?

Thanks for anyone that can offer help to this problem.

Most aftermarket radios come with an in-line fuse from the power supply (ignition source). Since you've got a radio display I'd say the fuse is good. Sounds to me like the radio itself has taken a dump. Ask the previous owner if he had problems with it.

Dont forget that all late model radios need to have two sources of 12 volts. One gets switched on by the ignition switch. The other one needs to be supplied full-time, to keep the internal memory working, and sometimes to have the radio electronics work at all.
