i have a 1986 firebird with the 2.8l v6. i was wondering if it is the same enigne they put in the fiero. but more importantly will parts (pistons crank came etc.) from a fiero fit in my motor? the only parts ive fould for the 2.8 is on http://www.fierostore.com/Product/Showcase.aspx

Yes the 2 engines are absolutely identical. But if you plan on building the motor up, I would suggest swapping out the block and lower end for that of a 3.4L that you can find in 93-95 Birds and Maro's. Everything on your engine will bolt right up to the 3.4 with no modification from what I have been told. You can keep your heads, since they are the same as the ones on the 3.4. You must also use your upper and lower intake that you already have, the 3.4's will bolt up to yours, as it does not support the same sensors that the 2.8 uses.

Maybe i'm about to learn something here about rear mounted transverse application, what would make them the exact same as a front longitudal mount that is not the same as a front transverse mount?
(example, a longitudal 3800 SC can't be put in a 3.8 F-body, and thus carries the distinction 3800 is FWD but a 3.8 is RWD)
Ironically enough, the only thing different between the F-body 2.8 and the Fiero 2.8 is the accessory brackets and upper intake manifold. The rest is all the same.
I guess when Fiero owners do their swaps, they pick the FWD 3.8, V8 Northstar, and various other FWD engine applications because mounting a RWD engine to a FWD tranny might not be computer friendly. So to keep things simple and straight forward I'd assume it would be best to just swap the engine along with the tranny it's already using.
Also, another thing you may notice different is the upper intake manifold on the Fiero's 2.8 is turned backwards and is angled compared to the F-body's. One thing alot of 3.4 guys like are the Fiero's valve covers. They're alot nicer compared to the 3.4's ugly steel black ones.
The 2.8 was commonly used throughout alot of older cars back in the mid 80's without no change to it at all. I believe that it was even in some Isuzu Rodeo's. It wasn't until the late 80's/early 90's that GM developed a FWD version of the engine (ie: the 2800/3100/3400... as opposed to the 2.8/3.1/3.4)
