97 s10 drivetrain issues

Hello my 1997 has a weird drivetrain issue, i pulled into my driveway the other day and the wheels locked up as i fully pressed on the clutch, I dont really know whats wrong but I start the engine and put it in neutral then release the clutch it makes this weird grabbing noise, the rear wheels were totally locked up when clutch is fully depressed but when its not they are totally free, so i put the transfer case in 4x4 hi and it moves the front wheels but it keeps the rear ones locked up,

my friend is a mechanic and he said it could be many things, vaccume line on transfer, clutch+bearing+ preasure plate, u joint, rear differential, or worse a whole transfer case

any help would be great,

thanks

Re: 97 s10 drivetrain issues

first - are you sure the rear brakes aren't sticking
2nd - when you let out the clutch is it grabbing right from the floor - a couple inches from the floor or almost at full release .

failing that i would say you have an issue in the diff .

Pull drive shaf and see if it is in rear end or in transfer case or transmission.
