New brakes trouble

I just had some new brakes put on up front because the old ones started to squeak. I have noticed that the vehicle does not stop even half as fast as it used to. I went 45 mph and slammed on my brakes and it took almost 5 seconds to come to a rolling stop. I feel very uncomfortable with this lack of braking ability. Will the brakes get broken in eventually or is there a problem with them?

Re: New brakes trouble

What year?

Did you use the 7.50 $ el cheapo pads.

Was the brake lines taken lose or did you lose any brake fluid?

Will the wheels slid?

Is the brake pedal hard or up to the top?
