DON'T DO IT

I have a Ranger with a built 302, it started as just droping in a Granada motor I had laying around. I now have $11,000 in it and climbing. At least with a 302 you can buy most of the parts needed to do the swap. I like mine.
The guy next to my work put a 460 in his with a c6 auto. That truck is a sit and spin. I could blow the doors of his truck.
Large motors with high torque need good rear ends and really wide tires to get any traction at all.
390 motors are really heavy. They are nice motors for mid size cars and full size trucks for hulling stuff. They are not much for racing.
Stay with a small block with an automatic and save your self a lot of hastle.
If you put a big block in keep in mind yu will need to put on custom fron springs, a sway bar (so when you hit the gas it does not rock you all over the place making weeve on the road), the frame will need boxed in or you will bend it, custom exhust /9because nobody sells headers for a 390 in a Ranger, you will have to cut your core support and relocate a custom radiator under the core support, and you will have to beat on the fire wall withh a sledge hammer hor about a half hour test fitting over and over.

Good luck, Andy
