clutch on VR6 5-speed

i know i need a new cluth for my jetta. im planing on changing it myself but people told me that i have to lift up the engine inorder for me to even reach the clutch? is this true

yes its a front whell drive transverse mounted engine so its crammed in there , you would have to take out engine mounts to raise it and then since the clutch plate is on the tranny youd have to take that off
