2000Beetle w/bad engine

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 2000 beetle with a bad engine. Does anyone know if the engine will come out of the top, or does the cradle need to be dropped? Any help woiuld be great.

Easiest way is to remove the front bumper and core support and take it out like that.

I don't want to contradict anyone, but the way the engine is normally removed is just like the old air cooled units. You drop it out the bottom. Typically, it can be done in about an hour and isn't really a big chore. The hardest part is to get the body high enough you can get the assembly to slide out the front.
