4L30E secondary clutch drum

The dealer told us the secondary clutch drum was dead in our 01 Rodeo. I was under the impression that a secondary was only for 4X4 and AWD. Our Rodeo is only 2WD. Is it a transmission thing? Or is the dealer trying something funny?

Are you the original owner?

if so it is covered by the 10yr 120k warranty.

The 2wd and 4wd trannies are identical except for the output shaft in order to connect either to a driveshaft for transfer case.

Re: 4L30E secondary clutch drum

No, we are not the original owners, so were stuck with paying for it. I was just worried about that drum. I thought the trannys might be identical, just wanted to check. Thanks for that info Tom. They're replacing the torque converter too, since it got too hot.
So everything should run fine in a day or two.
Thanks!
