Sticky leather seat

We just bought a 1997 Blazer that has leather interior. The previous owner had spilled something (I think) on the passenger seat and no matter what leather cleaner we try or how many times we wipe/dry it off within about half a day the stickiness is back.

Anyone have any ideas on a fix for this other than putting a seat cover over it?
