4 Colorado mountain passes...truck's still got

the beat! And she just keeps on ticken

Left bright and early this morning, hitting the road up 285 where we conquered Red Hill pass (9,993 feet), Kenosha pass (10,001 feet), Monarch pass (11,312 feet) along our route to the great Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Taylor Park reservior, and Tincup pass (12,000+ feet) - BEAUTIFUL country! So very pretty.

If I can find the cord to the digital camera to download the pics.

FWIW - I currently have a fill of Maxlife synthetic 5w-30 oil in the engine, truck didn't even use 1/8th qt hugging close to 4k rpm's on all passes, AND get this, averaged 23mpg!! ....Couldn't believe it myself, so I had two other people figure it for me, 23.5mpg!

I'd say that's pretty damn good for a 10yr old truck at 175k miles and carrying roughly 600 extra pounds of exterior armor, along with our touring crap.

EDIT to add: excuse me, make that 5 mountain passes, I forgot Cottonwood pass into Taylor Park, somewhere's between 10-11,000 feet.

Definitely heading back this way possibly in 2 weekends to actually spend 5-6 days.

Waiting for pics!

I got only 18 mpg on most tanksful on my trip. One tank, where I took it the slowest (70-75), I got nearly 22 mpg. Put in less than a half qt. the entire way. I'll change the oil tonight - little over 3K on it and it did tick a little when it got hot in SC. We were no where near the elevations you got to. At the base of Mt. Washington the elevation is only 2K or so and the summitt is 6288 ft.

Post 'em up!

This is your SLOWEST

Dang dude, that's about my fastest!

I generally travel around 70mph on flat-land open highway; in the highcountry, with twists and turns, it can be as little as 45-60mph at most.

That does sound fast, huh? I usually set the cruise at 78 if I have open road ahead. And that's probably 76 mph as my odo is off a couple mph.
