1998 Silverado Z71 Won't start.kdmartin 07-07-2007, 11:24 PM I have a 1998 Z71. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter 200-300 miles before the truck died and wouldn't start. My son was driving in town, had just turned a corner, so he wasn't doing 20-30 mph and the truck died. It hasn't started since. I did notice during the weeks before it died that it would "kick" a little driving down the road. Not at any specific speed and just every once in a while. Like it had a little water in the gas. Gas tank proved to be "clean", gas only. I have replaced, fuel pressure regulator, cap-rotor-wires and spark plugs, oil pressure sensor, cam position sensor, crank position sensor. Checked pressure at the shear valve, 60+. Pulled the plug on #1, turned her over, I got spark. Pulled upper intake and checked the poppets, they all spray. Timing? Computer controlled, I have nothing I can do there right? What's next? I don't depend on this vehicle for transportation but I do need it for plowing snow and pulling the boat. Any ideas/information would be greatly appreciated. :banghead: webwolfalpha 07-08-2007, 11:13 AM Not sure if this will be any help but here goes; There is an electronic do-hicky, for the life of me I can't think of what it's called right now, but it's up near the throttle-body on the passanger side and it's a little smaller than a pack of smokes and if I remember correctly it costs about $75-80 bucks. lol I know that's pretty vegue but if you can figure out what I'm talkin about check that. Good luck man. kdmartin 07-08-2007, 06:41 PM This doohicky got a line looks like a fuel vapor return line going to a canister in the left front corner of the engine compartment? Not a typical canister but it has a line that's headed to the fuel tank. Trapline 07-09-2007, 09:58 AM I have got the same problem, except my vehicle would not start after sitting for 2 days. I am going to do the plug wire thing tonight or tommorow except my truck is 50 kms in the bush! Have you thought about the ignition coil?? kdmartin 07-11-2007, 02:50 PM I have enough spark to set ya on yer ass. I check #6 this morning and it was gasoline wet. and sparked well. 'Bout ready to send it off to a shop. (there goes my mortgage money...) :banghead: Trapline 07-11-2007, 03:36 PM KdMartin: I went yesterday and changed the wires and i got it going. As I changed the wires I also dried my plugs and ignited a few cylinder holes to clear out the excess gas. It was risky but I knew the engine was flooded didn't know of any other way. Perhaps your motor is severely flooded and the gas/air mixture is way too rich causing it to not ignite?? Anyways just my 2 c. Also, check your oil dipstick and figure out if your oilpan is full of fuel, that could lead you to additional problems. Trapline vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
