How Do I Prevent Dash Fade?

Or is it inevitable?

I posted this in another forum and thought I'd post it here too.

Didn't find much in a search so I thought I'd ask.

I've finally got my 96 1L, 5 sp h/b all together and running. It's a salvage rebuild that sat in a guy's garage for 10 years. He bought both the main chassis and the parts car and was going to convert it to an electric car but stuff happened yada yada yada.

Anyway the interior is brand new and still has that plastic new car smell. Since I know what these dashes are prone to do, I was just wondering what I can use to protect the dash from fading? I've thought of those sun shades but they seem like kind of a pain. Not sure if I like the dash covers either but I might not have a choice.

Is there some kind of preservative or wax or paste etc that would be good to keep the dash from cracking and bleaching?

Thanks!

Re: How Do I Prevent Dash Fade?

Put Armour All on it about once a month, that should help prevent it from cracking and fading.

Re: How Do I Prevent Dash Fade?

Hi Irk,

I can barely keep track of years, let alone months. Knowing how forgetful I am, I'll probably end up using a dash cover or sun shade. If only they used the right materials this wouldn't be a problem and it seems that by now, they would know what works and what doesn't for dashes. Same way with the headliners.
