1998 Camaro

I'm 16 looking to buy my first car. What I'm looking at now is a 1998 Chevy Camaro. It's got 102,000 miles on it, but it appears to be in pretty good condition, cosmetically speaking. It's being sold for $3,995. First of all do you think that is a decent price? Also, I've heard that american cars do very good after 100,000 miles. Is this true? If not how long should it last about?
I dont want to buy something for cheap thnking its a good deal then get nickel and dimed to death with repairs. Any help is appreciated.

Re: 1998 Camaro

Hell, 6 or 8 that's not a bad price. I'd beat down to 3,500 if ti's a V6 tho.

Re: 1998 Camaro

Just make sure the car was properly maintained and blah blah blah. But a camaro for under $4K is a good price.

Re: 1998 Camaro

OK first of all i made a big mistake i wrote that american made cars do GOOD after 100,000 miles i meant that they DON'T do good. Is that true or not? The camaro I was talking about just got taken off the website this morning so scratch that one. But the other one I was looking at was a 1996 Camaro RS. It's a v6, not t-tops or conv. but its got 66,000 miles on it and its priced at $4,995

Re: 1998 Camaro

v6's are alright but if your looking for power you should stick it out and keep looking for a z28 with the LT1. and if it is a 6 make sure it's a stick or you will have no fun.

Re: 1998 Camaro

dude hes 16..not trying to be funny, but he dont need a lt1 or a ls1..a nice 3800 is what he needs..first off he will get ass raped when it comes to car insurance, and im sure his parent aint fucking nuts yet...i dont know many 16 year old kids whos parent would want them to have a v8 anything...! and a stick or a auto, who cares, if this isnt his first car its damn near close to it...he needs something that will get him and a few of his hommies to point A to point B, and the occasional chick to the movies...oh and save on gas money. that price for that rs isnt bad at all with that milage, and if its in good shape that is a cool car..i had a 96 RS and it was power enough, trust me...it aint like hes going all brian spilnor on us, this guy just wants a bad ass trust worthy car...a good 3800 is right up you aisle kid....go for it.

yea I don't know if I agree with that..my first car was a 5.0L TA when I was 16 and right now I'm 19 and I've got my '95 TA..I think a V8 is a great first car as long as whoever is driving it isn't a freaking idiot..then again he is right on the insurance part, but you could always see if your parents will insure the car under themselves and just let you drive it, thats what I did

yea most "normal" parents will laugh at u if u ask for a v8 sports car as your first car. my 87 iroc was my second car but i was 16 when i got it. before that i had a hand-me-down 96 olds ciera. my parents know how much i love f-bodies so they were cool with it and insured it under their name, but it was still a high rate. so the 3800 is the best of both worlds in this situation, its still a camaro but but the insurance will be lower and you are less likely to kill your self

Re: 1998 Camaro

My first was a 8, and my second for that matter. Then I was on my own and dumbed down to a 4 banger to get through life on my own.

I'm telling my boys now when they say, "ooh I'm getting this car, and I'm getting that car". I tell em good luck, because they are buying it on their own and paying upkeep including their own insurance. I like my 18/mo rate thank you.
