K&N filter

Hi Guys;
Just wondered if replacing the stock air filter on my GT with a 3400 engine with a K&N air filter would make any difference on performance?

Re: K&N filter

na you wont notice any gains, your best bet would be to just replace the whole ram air intake and get yourself a nice cold air intake, your can find some on ebay.com from chromintakes alot of people seem to use those. you can try doctorspeed.com but hes been having problems and gettin bad feedback, or lastly u can try mpracing.com hes a great guy to do business with. i personally got mine from doctorspeed when he was gettin big a known for his intakes but he just went down hill right now i would personally buy from mpracing hes a great guy

Welcome to AF!

Having owned, and still own my drop-in K&N filter lol

It helps out a little bit with air flow, you get better gas mileage due to more flow to the engine, then again it also makes the ratio of gas mileage in a more wider band if that makes sense

basically, if you're a light foot with your grand am, and you have the drop-in K&N, it helps a great deal with with mileage

if you like to get up and go, you'll notice a slight improvement in speed, and a little bit more growl to the engine. But in all respect, having a heavy foot will affect how good the mileage is... in most cases it'll go down a little under heavy driving

Putting in a K&N filter will not screw up the computer settings, You will be getting better flow of air to the engine, hence the computer will correct it (the ratio)... the PCM will be sending more fuel to be burned to keep the balance of air/fuel in your engine.

With a drop-in you will also still pass emissions if you're worried about that.

All in all, the changes are slight... but noticeable. If you drive easy, your mileage will improve a little bit... if you drive your grand am hard, again the mileage will go down, and you'll get a more slightly louder growl sound to the engine.

Hope all this info helps

Normally the price of a K&N drop-in is around $50 I do believe, but I could be wrong

Oh yea, and the best part... You'll Never have to buy another filter again! ... and they're easy to clean and maintain
