They are a performance shop in the East Bay area that rebuilds old race cars, but I have been told they typically have a couple F1's in the garage for servicing.
The car they sold was #016. The other car you might frequently find there was chassis #042, the former Carl Beal car which is now red. Both those F1s were owned by the same individual whose name I seem to have conveniently forgotten. Sauc3 and I met him in the paddock at last year's Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca where he was displaying #016 in front of the Virtuoso Performance transporter.
Last I heard, a couple of months ago, the owner (Scott Drnek, I think his name was) was on his way to England to get his shop officially certified as another McLaren service center. So there will be a service facility in Southern California (BMW in Oxnard) and in Northern California (Virtuoso Performance).
There is demand for one in Northern Callifornia, yes. Plus, VP has several other streams of income, so this is adding another one without adding much cost. It is a completely different story from a shop starting up from scratch and planning to only provide McLaren F1-related services.
