Even when the car is not running and the light switch is turned off, the tail lights continue to stay on. This runs down the battery. So, I've removed the light bulbs and have not been driving the car. Fortunately, I have another car.

Are you sure this is tail lights and not brake lights?

It could be a simple matter of a bad stop switch.

Thanks for your reply. I presume you mean the switch that's behind the brake pedal. I'll try replacing it.
