2000 SE trans problem?

I am having hit and miss trouble shifting from reverse to drive. I back out of the drive way and then put it in drive and it takes a couple seconds to catch, but only once in a while. I still need to get my fluid checked or replaced. The car does not shift hard or anything. Last night we drove it 40 miles to go eat. When we got done, I backed out of my parking spot, put it in drive and the same thing happened. Then when it did catch, I would give it gas to get going and it seemed like it was sputtering...like there was a problem with the fuel filter or pump. It would go but was real sputtery/jerky. It finally went away. We went shopping for a while and started it up again and there was absolutely no problem whatsoever. I am hoping it just needs the trans fluid and filter changed. It has 62K on it and has never had the fluid changed.

Check the fluid this sounds like a low fluid condition. On grand am's there is no dipstick so you will need to remove the plug to check it. If you haven't changed the fluid and filter then you should see the problem go away. If the fluid is low you can add some and may help the situation. Don't waste your money on a flush just change the fluid and filter.

I hope that's all it is.

I will have the fluid and filter changed this weekend.

Thanks for your response!

Got the trans fluid and filter changed. I also changed the fuel filter for good measure. Knock on wood...it seems to have helped the situation. Thanks again!
