open headers

im thinkin about opening the headers on my 3800 because ive heard another 3800 that sounded mean w/ them open....is there anything that i should know about before i do this..(ex. Is it bad for the car?)....where should i get it done or could i do it myself? thanks

somebody told me u loose power when u do that, im not sure if its true or not..i think something about the lack of back pressure??? i dunno.....also its illegal as hell, i dont kniow where u live but i know places like lets say virginia..they will inpound your car if they catch u running on open headers! here in fl...shit we dont have car inspections, hell they half ass care what we chop off the car..80% of the f-bodies down here have not cats, have dumps like me and dont get bothered at all..hell the cops tell us the cars sound great!

You won't lose power. You'll gain top-end power, but sacrifice some low-end torque with open headers.
