Hi guys...

Hey I'm new to this site and was looking around for some professional opinions...
I'm 21 and just starting out my career as a mechanic. I purchased a 2002 Grand Am GT and I am turning it into my show car. I'm looking to do some performance upgrades but can't find anything for the 3400 engine

I am now contemplating rebuilding a full custom 3800 supercharged engine to replace my 3.4

Any ideas of how the 3800 will bolt up to my current transmission and cradle? Also I was looking at doing a 5 speed changeover. Any idea if GM made a 5 speed for the 3800?

Thank you for all your input on this...

and as well with the engine swap, I think it's been done... but it is no easy task!

It's going to take you a LOOONNNGGG time... pretty much everything needs replaced and custom fabricated. I heard an estimate of like 500 hours or something... you'll probably need the new transmission as I think XeroInfinity once said it's a 90deg whereas our crappy grand am trannies are 60deg... and explode easily Your grand am tranny will not withstand the force of a 3800 SC!!!

I dont even think a 3800 would bolt up, completely different engine, sorta like a more sophisticated 3400 if you will... either way it would rip it apart.

Granted you have a I assume good looking grand am GT 2dr coupe. Like anything else it's gonna take some time before its looking clean enough for it to even be a show car lol.

let us know if you got any more questions!

Re: Hi guys...

Welcome to AF wtselig07.

Check out car domain for some kick butt lookin Grand Am idea's
Mods are becoming harder to find because the car is discontinued and so are the parts.

As far as the 3800 try searching the grand am and N-body forums, thier should be some links as this has been discussed many times but with no real details.
Like Vipey said 500 hours if you have done something simular before maybe even 800-1000 hrs and maybe $5-6K just for the swap.
Parts would have to be fabed when none are available, and that's not cheap!
Then you have PCM/EBCM issues

Why'd they have to make it so difficult

Good Luck and have fun modding

Re: Hi guys...

I appreciate all of your input fellas. I think that I'm gonna try it. If it ends up not working I can always sell the rebuilt engine and put everything back together. You gotta learn from your mistakes.

I pretty confident in my fabricating ability and I got a lot of friends and family that can help.

I guess its gonna be a long hard road ahead...

As far as what my car looks like so-far...

Re: Hi guys...

those wheels are making me sick, the gull'ish wing doors are kinda pointless. As for the SC 3800, why not just purchase a Grand Prix with that particular engine and customize it instead, far less expense?

Re: Hi guys...

nice shiny car wtselig07.
Please limit the size of your pics to 800x600.
As stated in the Community Participation Guidelines

It would be cooler to suicide the rear doors though.
Thats been on my back burner for a while now ....
I'd be afraid I'd hit the car next to me or some other crazy catastrophe and the rims.....
