hard turn at low speeds

My "00 silverado feels like it is stuck in 4lo when I turn at low speeds, like into a parking spot, the front wheels seem to skip and grab on the pavement, it is clearly in 2hi but it doesn't feel like it shoud when turning. My mom has a tahoe with the same set up but it turns like butter at low speeds...help

Re: hard turn at low speeds

(Disclaimer; I've never had a 4wd vehicle)
Could it be that it's not technically in 4wd in that the front gearbox isn't tied to the driveshaft, but the left and right front wheels are still bound in the front Differential?

Maybe jack both front wheels up and spin to ensure no binding in the differential somewhere?

I could be totally off on this...

Re: hard turn at low speeds

Can you tell me what is selected? 4wd Auto, 2 hi, 4 hi or 4low. It you are in Auto, this engages locks the front diff. so regardless if you are going straight or turning the tires will grab. Make sure you are 2 wd drive.

It is in 2HI but it still feels like it is in 4LO the way it grabs...

Re: hard turn at low speeds

I have a 2002, The same thing was happening to me at low speeds it was actually the gear box for the power steering .... Thank god for my extended warranty... Try turning the wheel left and right while standing still see if its worse....
