01 SE1 Start-up issues...

Hello gentlemen/ladies, I am unfortunately back to this website with yet another problem. As of right now, my car is sitting in a convenience store parking lot that is a 40 minute walk away. Earlier today, my g/f and I went to see a movie, afterwards thinking that ice cream sounded nice. Well, when we got back to my car (which had been sitting idle for no more than 3 minutes) it simply wouldn't start up. When I leave my key set to ON/ACC (I think that's what it is) I show three error lights: Battery, Oil/Fluid, and the ever problematic Security. I don't think my battery's the issue as I don't have any problems starting the air conditioner, or other battery draining luxuries. Also, the fluid temps are reading normal. So, I'm left with that darned security light.

Now, if the security light is the issue, I feel that some backstory may be necessary. Three months ago, I had to have my passlock decoder replaced. Apparently, the one key that I was given to my car was worn enough that the mechanic actually had to take the whole assembly home and use trial/error with different pins until he found a set that would let my key start my car. I have since made copies of my slightly worn key, and have had zero problems since then. When my car wouldn't start, I even tried using one of the extra copies that I had hidden in my car... but to no luck.

I'm going to wait a few hours before heading back with all of your generous suggestions, so that I can collect as many options as possible as to how to start my car.

*Note* I found a thread from years ago that might be of some use to me, but I wanted to leave up to you experts to tell me whether I should spend the time/effort attempting it. The method in question was left by the user Ridenour in the thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=400965

Thank you so much!

Re: 01 SE1 Start-up issues...

if your security light is on when u put it to the ON position youll have to do the precedure thats on the link u provided this happened to me the other night at like 3 in the morning leavin a party..wen u try to start the car if the radio, dash, headlights come on then its not ur battery but best thing to kno if ur security light is on just do the procedure and it should work.... and a thing i learned is dont keep doing it. like notice is says repeat the procedure, just do it once and try starting it if not then try again dont just go into doing it, you might kill ur battery cuz that happened to me once and i was there for twice as long... but anyway goodluck bro

Re: 01 SE1 Start-up issues...

Well JMoney... no luck. I managed to track down a mechanic friend of mine who came over to look at my hunk o' junk. When he was trying it, he wasn't getting the security light like I had been. So, maybe the pins need to be played with again. He guessed that a 'chip was needing replaced.'

Long story short, he gave me a tow to a nearby shop. I appreciate your time and effort in helping me attempt to solve my dilemma. Unfortunately, my car didn't want to play along.

But again, thanks so much. This website still kicks a$$
