Exclamation TRAC light & tranmission weirdness

I recently noticed that after driving for a while, my TRAC light comes on and then the car literally starts lurching when it shifts into a new gear. If I turn the car off even for a few seconds, the TRAC light goes off again and the car is fine. It's an automatic 2001 Grand Am...

Anyone ever experience this, and how did you fix the problem?

Thanks guys!

Re: TRAC light & tranmission weirdness

Welcome to AF.

Get it scanned with an ABS capable scan tool.
thiers no other way too know why they come on.

Re: TRAC light & tranmission weirdness

I was a lot more concerned about the rough shifting, actually. I'm not sure why the TRAC light and lurching into gear are related, and I'm praying that the transmission isn't going out. Maybe the problem is electrical?

Re: TRAC light & tranmission weirdness

Either way...
whether it's an ABS or a Trany problem,
the only way to tell is too get it scanned with a scanner that can check for ABS and Transmission diagnostic trouble codes(DTC).

Other wise your just guessing and parts are not cheap

Neither are transmissions

Re: TRAC light & tranmission weirdness

Thanks for your thoughts. I really appreciate the tips!!

I'm making my final payment on the car this week , so I was expecting something to fall apart. Just hope it's not too expensive.
