s15 conversion + SR20DET

what's up? I'm new to this forum. ANyways, this question is for all of you who have converted the front end of a 95-98 240sx to a Silvia front end. Anyone have pictures? Approximate cost? Where can I get the parts? What can be done about the rear end to make it look more like an S15? If you guys have seen the ad for the what looks like a Silvia in the HKS ad(with the body kit), will it look like that? I've seen some Silvia conversions where the headlights look thinner than others. Are the thinner ones S14?

How much is an SR20DET and where could I get one for 240sx? What extra parts/work is required to fit the engine in?(mounts? ecu?)

One last question: know of any other web sites with forums on the 240sx?

Thanks!

Try www.srswap.com and www.boostdynamics.com. As for the strawberry face fender kit, I've also been trying to get my hands on a set with no results. Good luck!

Just to clarify on your obvious lack of knowledge...here's what a SILVIA really is...a SILVIA conversion consists of an SR20 block..either turbo'd or not..that's what a SILVIA is...meaning J-Spec parts..now obviously what you're looking for is a S-15 conversion...remember...s-14 is generally the 93-97 240sx's...93-95 having the rounded off lights, and the 96-97 lights being the infamous "single piece cat'eyed" or "chinky eyes". The chinky-eyed look is very popular in japan. HOwever what you may speak of in regards to "thinner lights" is the new S-15 "strawberry face" look that belongs on the 98- silvia's....the cost is mostly labor..since the grafting is pretty simple...but i've been quoted from reknowned body shops at about $3000...as for the rear lights...if you have an s-14..i'd stay with the rear end...the s-15 rear end is not very popular..whether in japan or not..they say it looks too "AMERICAN"..and we all known American cars suck...but if you insist on having a s-15 rear..it's a matter of grafting, cutting, and pasting parts onto the chassis...obviously it'll primarily be for looks...because racing would splice your chassis like a hot knife through butter...but nonetheless..that's what happens...also...when it comes to cusotmizing a car...i'd suggest being more unique..do not follow anybody else's ideas...especially a company like HKS..otherwise you'll simpley be a BITER...and sr20det motors you can get just about anywhere...but if you want to avoid the 6 months it'll take to pass through customs..i suggest you have a reliable after-market shop order it for you (usually overnight of up to a week) so they can bypass customs for "BUSINESS" reasons..and have it installed...the engine itself ranges from 1500-4000...while the installation depends on how good they are..the engine usually slides right in..as long as you get the matching year SR20 to the matchin year of your car...(yes they do differ)...but mine will be installed for just under 1000 and an additional 3k for the custom silvia front end intercooler and an upgrade to a ballbearing turbo..probably t-4 or higher

Actually, the S14 is '95-'98. The S15 is following that to current. Within the S14 era exists the zenki (so called 'round headlights') and kouki (tapered lights). These are common terms used in Japan to represent automakers' incorporation of minor facelifts (almost like sequential lettering).

The fact that it is not popular is purely subjective. Furthermore, you've just said an oxymoron. The simple reason that you suggest that the S15 rear end is not very popular and looks too "AMERICAN" contradicts your proceeding statement, "when it comes to cusotmizing a car...i'd suggest being more unique..do not follow anybody else's ideas...especially a company like HKS..otherwise you'll simpley be a BITER..." So if the S14 rear ends are more popular, and you go with that, won't you then be following trend? I say go for it and try the S15 rear on an S14. It's going to cut all the way into the forward half of the C-pillar, but at least you would be unique.

hey silviajspec,

don't be an ASS. if you wanna be yourself, take it to Supraforum or Freshalloy. plenty of people like you there you could talk to and mingle. that guy said he's new to this forum. not everyone has the comprehensive expertise in this subject matter. so instead of pointing out people's "OBVIOUS LACK OF KNOWLEDGE" why not work on your OBVIOUS LACK OF CLASS... how old are you anyways? I'm thinking High School. I hope High School... I'd hate to think an adult would act in such boorish manner.

sorry Morpheus... just don't like jerks like that

I guess he had that one coming; if someone's going to shoot their mouth off, then there are going to be repercussions (I don't think he's ever coming back to AF anyway). But in any case let's end it here.

SilviaJSpec what r u talking about

first of all i am new to the site also and i would also like to know where a good spot would be to get a s15 front end conversion. but u (silviajspec) should know that the 95-96 240sx have the rounded light and the 97's and up have the slanted or pointier look to them, all the rest 94 and under are the flip up lights. just thought u would like to know.
