Hi Fellas:

I need some advice. I'm about to purchase a used 2006 Chev Silverado 2500HD with the 6.6L Diesel and the 6 speed Allison tranny. The truck has about 21,500 km's on it and previously used as a rental fleet vehicle.

After test driving it, the engine and tranny seems smooth. From all those out there that had these engines and trannies, what are your experiences? Good or bad?

Should I opt to purchase additional warranty coverage?

Thanks!!!

I vote no. Doesn't seem worth it unless you got a lemon. But, if you do, buy one underwritten by GM only. Don't buy a cheaper dealer underwritten or no name company underwritten warranty, otherwise you have no guarantee they will be there when you need them.

Also, read the fine print, and you may not want it.

Negative. You have a new, low mileage diesel. It will run forever. Not to mention that most extended warranty companies are crooks, and will actually pay for very little.
