Daytona Engine SwapRuman 10-29-2002, 01:28 PM I am buying a 1990 Dodge Daytona. It currently has a 2.5L non-turbo engine w/ a 5spd tranny. I am looking to switch it over to the 3.0L V6 and replacing the clutch. I think the tranny lines up w/ the 3.0L V6. Would that be the best combo to go with? I know the turbo 4banger would probably be faster but it would also be quite a bit more expensive. Also whats a good place to get aftermarket clutches for the Daytonas?? Thanks Chase AIM: Ruman Polygon 10-31-2002, 12:36 PM Man, TRUST ME! You want the 2.2L Turbo II, it is really cheap to get it into 12s in the 1/4 and still perfectly daily driveable. However; if you're stuck on the 3.0L, to each his own. If you get the 2.2L Turbo II you will need to get the Getrag 5 speed as well. As for clutches, the best to go with are AEM. 85Shelby 11-20-2002, 05:44 PM why not do an N/A with the 2.5 that you got? you can get 200 hp easily from that 2.5 use the G cast turbo head (bigger valves and flows better) and porting with a good aftermarket cam..... up the fuel pressure a bit and you'd be surprised at what your car can do. the V6 isn't what you think.... mopar performance even make ecu upgrades for that 2.5 throttle body motor. Polygon 12-13-2002, 12:40 PM Gah, and I meant ACT, not AEM, what the hell was I thinking? lanosx 01-28-2003, 08:50 AM Originally posted by Ruman I am buying a 1990 Dodge Daytona. Thanks Chase AIM: Ruman Your going to have to do more than swap motors, your going to need the fuel pump from either a v6 or 2.5 turbo car. the v6 computer and a heck of a lot of wiring is needed to. Your tranny might well fit, but be sure it will handle the power of the v6. the NA 2.5 produces 100hp and 135lbs-ft . the v6 as you might know makes 141hp and 171lbs-ft. also the v6 might weigh more than a typical 4 banger setup. consider what advancments you might have to make interms of suspension and brakes too. but the fun stuff is the 2.5 Turbo I. unlike the v6 it isnt quite as limited in terms of power increases. stock the 2.5 has 150hp/180lbs-ft from 1989 to 1990. in 1991 power increased to 152hp and 210lbs-ft called the "high torque" version :) But if your in need of serious power. Consider getting a 2.5 turbo I from a 1989-1992 car. these blocks are capable of handling 300hp in stock forum. read more about it here www.thedodgegarage.com have fun Bernard daytonaes93 02-05-2003, 04:54 PM actually ive found that the 30 could be much faster that the turbo because of the torque. i have a friend w/ a 92 shadow es 3.0 5 speed completely stock and it will take a slugtang or camaro anyday although the trannys arent very durable when it comes to the 3.0:smoker2: Ranger_X 02-12-2003, 09:26 PM Originally posted by daytonaes93 actually ive found that the 30 could be much faster that the turbo because of the torque. i have a friend w/ a 92 shadow es 3.0 5 speed completely stock and it will take a slugtang or camaro anyday although the trannys arent very durable when it comes to the 3.0:smoker2: werd, the getrag A-555 on the other hand :D Polygon 02-14-2003, 11:52 AM Originally posted by daytonaes93 actually ive found that the 30 could be much faster that the turbo because of the torque. i have a friend w/ a 92 shadow es 3.0 5 speed completely stock and it will take a slugtang or camaro anyday although the trannys arent very durable when it comes to the 3.0:smoker2: The 3.0L can't touch the 2.2L or 2.5L turbo cars on the torque end, or the horsepower end for that matter. And the A-555 was kick ass, but the A-568 Getrag was the same tranny with better syncros, give me either, wait I do have both. :D daytonaes93 02-15-2003, 02:21 PM not always true a friend of mine has a show es w/30 5 speed and went up against shadow es w/ 22 turbo 5 speed and both cars were stock the 30 wooped the 22 and i put my 30 daytona up against a 22 turbo daytona both 5 speeds and at the time i spun a little more than i wanted and i still kept right up with it beat it by a fender maybe we re both just good racers but i dunno but dont get me wrong i have seen some quick ass 2.2 and 2.5 turbos Polygon 02-15-2003, 02:48 PM Stock for stock the 2.2L Turbo II has the power to kill a 3.0L. It came to the driver on both cases, the guys in the 2.2s can't drive for crap and should be driving Geo Metros, how sad, what a waste. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
