Coolant Leak

Hey I've got a 2002 Z71 with the 5.3L. I have a ghost coolant leak somewhere. I go through about a gallon of coolant a month and as you all know that stuff ain't cheap. The problem is, I don't know where the leak is. It's not going into the block thank god!!! But I can never find it leaking from any of my hoses. I find puddles on the ground under the truck usually just inside and behind the passenger wheel. I've looked and looked for leaks or coolant dripping. I've looked with it running, I've looked with it off, just can't find anything. Anyone else have this problem? Or know of a weak point in the system that fails quite often? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Coolant Leak

Pressure testing the system will be your best bet to find the leak. Since you said that you find the puddles behind the passenger wheel, I wonder if your heater core is the source of the leak. Or maybe the hoses to the heater core.

Do you smell coolant inside the truck?

Re: Coolant Leak

No I don't smell coolant in the cab at all. Not even with the heater running. Is pressure testing the system something that I can do? I know I used to be able to with older cars with an adapter and a garden hose, but with dex cool I don't know if I can add water to the system.

Re: Coolant Leak

You need something similar to this http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/KD-3700.html

Perhaps it would be best to find a shop that can perform the pressure test for you and then you can decide if you want to do the work yourself or let the shop do the work.
