Test Drove a 98 GTI VR6

Hi im new to vw's and was test driving a vr6 the other day and had a question that maybe one of you can answer..........

when on a slow roll is it me or is it hard to get the car back in first gear from second. I dont really like the idea of letting the engine bog down like that while in second. I dont know if it was me or the car. Thanks

Did it come out of second, and wouldn't go back into first, or wouldn't it come out of second?

I came up to a stop in second and coasted through the stop really slow and wanted to shift in to first out of the stop but it wouldnt let me in first so i had to keep it in second with the clutch in half way. It came out of second but it felt like i almost couldnt find first gear. Usually in any other car going that slow it would go in to gear. wierd

was it new?

vw's has an infamous 2nd gear sync problem.. i have a 96 vr6 and i had to put mlt synthetic tranny oil in it to help with the shifting but from what i've heard they tranny's are built like tanks so it's not a big problem anymore *shrug* however i still hear about the old 2nd gear thing, but it hasn't affected me.

is a 98 a cable clutch?
