92 Grand Caravan Clunk

For a long time every time i make a turn i get a clunk from the rear. I checked everything in the back and nothing is loose or hitting anything including the exhaust. The U bolts from the leaf springs were rubbing againist the rear shocks and i just cut the bolts down low so they don't dig into the rear shocks anymore but i am still getting a clunk. What else can it be any ideas?

Re: 92 Grand Caravan Clunk

Do you have a single or multi leaf springs ?
Is the spare tire ready to fall off?

Check the individual leafs on the springs to make sure none are broken.

Re: 92 Grand Caravan Clunk

They all look intact. They are old and rusted but they look ok.

Re: 92 Grand Caravan Clunk

I was looking under the car and saw that the leaf spring shackle bushings are not in the best condition. One the right side one of the bushing is completely crushed. Could this be the cause of the noise. Anyone know where to purchase replacments nobody carries them i called autozone, advanced auto parts everywhere any ideas?

Re: 92 Grand Caravan Clunk

Why don't you squirt some silicone RTV sealent in there and see if noise goes away. Let it cure overnight.

Re: 92 Grand Caravan Clunk

I may try that but my theory is that there is nothing else that can be causing that noise so if the bushings are cheap enough i will change them all.
