Radio has message that says "MAN"???

Hi.

My father has a 2000 or 2001 New Beetle GLS TDI and has been having problems with radio reception. I already know about the Ampled Ant. and all that but there is a question he asked me I dont know the anwser to.

When the radio is on (NOT CD PLAYER) there is a small message in the top right corner of the display that says "MAN"

He asked me what it ment and I said Manual but Manual what?

He said its always there when the Radio is on and none of the buttons do anything with it.

So my question is what could that message mean?

Please let me know and thanks for the help!

PS- I have already searched the internet, these forums, the owners manual, and some other books

Re: Radio has message that says "MAN"???

Thanks for the response but that really dosent awnser my question.

The radio still works fine. The only thing is a bit of bad reception. When I said the buttons didnt do anything I was talking in regards to that message, they still change the channels and the like.

So with it still working why would it be needing a new radio?

Also can you please tell me what that message means?

Re: Radio has message that says "MAN"???

the "man" relates to the power antenne function. The antenne signal is boosted electrically by the radio. When the function fails in the radio it uses just a manual antenne thus giving poor reception (compared to a powered antenne). If you can have the codes read by a dealer in the radio. You may have a faulty antenne mast/base combonation (also a common problem)

Ok thanks much for the reply, that helps a ton. I will let him know and see what he wants to do about it, how hard is replacing that part (ant. base) and how much is it going to cost.

Please let me know and thanks again!
