Replacing Cabin Air Filter (Need Help)

I thought I knew where the cabin air filter is but I have no idea. Does anyone have directions on how to get to it or even where its located. The car is an 03 VW beetle.

Thanks

Chris,
Not sure if it is in the same place on an 03 as it is in my 98 bug, but I suspect it is. Access it from inside the car, just in front of the passenger seat. You remove the center plastic shield - top center of dash, just under the windshield - by sliding it toward the front of the car. You will then see the screws to remove the panel just in front of the passenger side seat. They are torx screws. Under that panel you will see how to remove the rest of the filter. It's a little tight in there - but hey, that's a bug!

Thanks for the help. I will give that a try. It looked like that piece comes off but of course I couldn't get it to budge. Will try again though.

Re: Replacing Cabin Air Filter (Need Help)

I just did this today on both my NBs. The center dash cover required the use of a block of wood and a tap to get it to pop back, worked, but be careful. The 2002 has the Monsoon sound, so each side panel required unplugging the speakers--no problem. Once the torxs screws (I seem to remember six) are removed, it will take some pressure and coaxing to get that inner panel out. Good time to have a vacuum cleaner handy. The filter is very visible, two clips on the rear side of the frame must be held back to release the frame. Kirk is on target--everything is tight, but the job can be done without a lot of trouble.

i just got 98 and wanted to check the cabin filter. I slid back the center of the dash, found three t-15 screws removed those. Now do I want to take the whole dash panel off from this point?
