I am looking to buy a 99 new jetta 2.0 with 134k miles and automatic. Could any of you advise me on what to check before buying? The seller is a mechanic who bought the car from an impound lot - so he has no clue as to transmission, water pump, and/or tbelt service being done. Is there a way to check if any of these have been done using the VIN# through a VW dealer?

leave the car at the impound lot.. 99 jettas are worthless and have no resale value
