2000 Camry Lights, power windows, turn lamps

Well a few days ago I thought I had the alternator go out! Luckily it was the timing belt.

Got the new belt in but now all of the interior lights, windows, radio, turn lamps are not working! The card does run just all the power is out inside the car.

I do recall that when I was taking the alternator out the large hot cable made contract with the exhaust heat shield and threw a big spark.

Is there a fusible link some where or ? that has to be replaced?

Thanks

Neil

Re: 2000 Camry Lights, power windows, turn lamps

In my 94 Camry there is a fusible link between the alternator and battery that also supplies current to various other things. I don't remember off the top of my head what they were, but it'll probably be similar for your car. Check your relay boxes for the alternator fusible link and it should be blown. If it is not, replace it anyway because if it didn't blow, it sure did recieve a lot of stress and should be weaker.

Note: If the fusible link did not blow, keep an eye out for trouble. When you create a short, you instantly convert all the electrical energy into heat energy. The points with most resistance heat up most. The fuse should have the most resistance, so they get the hottest, and they melt. Junctions/harnesses also have more resistance (but not as much as the fuse) especially if they do not have a clean connection. During a short these will heat up as well. Normally these do not get damaged, but if the fuse fails, these are next.
