Question 1990 lumina 2.5L 4 cyl wont restart

at a light my engine died with no warnings whatsoever - I tried cranking engine but starter wudnt engage - last time started it was strong with no unujsual noises and ran just fine until it died - I checked the lights, fuses, relays and a few otehr things and all seems to check out - I even checked fuel pump and it checks out fine - the only problem I have is engine wont crank over at all and no noises whatsoever telling me the solenoid cud be bad or something else - engine check light didnt even come on - battery is new and has bright green indicator light built-in
the car is a 1990 Lumina with a 2.5L 4 cyl, automatic, power windows and locks, a/c, 4 door, 4 wheel disc brakes, cruise - it does have close to 215,000 miles on it and thankfully duznt leak or burn oil yet nor does it losde coolant - it just wont crank at all after it died at a stop light
any thoughts or further help wud be much appreciated by anyone - please dont be rude, just be honest - Thanks

Does it sound like the starter hits but can't turn it? Or no solenoid sound from the starter at all?

Question Re: 1990 lumina 2.5L 4 cyl wont restart

I get absolutely no starter sound at all - no clicks or anything - I am a pretty good shade-tree mechanic but this one has me baffled for now - Thanks

Ignition switch failure?
why not try to jumper the sol. and see if starter works?

I dunno what I did right but a while ago, yeah I forgot to post this earlier, took it to a shop (actually towed there) and they fixed it. It was the alternator after all. It was putting out only 20 amps at its best. All has been well until I had the O2 sensor go out on me recently (see new posting about that).
