'66 Beetle Turbo

Here is my current project. Tamiya '66 Beetle with Fujimi Porsche 930 turbo engine. I am going for sleeper look, no modifications to body, it will be painted with some matte colour with rust and etc.

First I fitted Porsche rear axle to beetle chassis.

Then build rollcage from aluminium tube, seat is resin from Reji. Also made new gastank and place for battery in boot.

Tank on left (no filler cap yet), battery place right. (lots of sanding ahead)

Here engine in place, rollcage and other parts painted.

Almost all tubes from turbo are made of tinwire by me and painted black, because original parts didn't fit to beetle. Front brakediscs from rally Lancer, rear aftermarket from parts box. Backseat covered with sheet of styrene.

Here pics with body and rims.

Re: '66 Sleeper Beetle Turbo

Good job so far, I like what I see

I also think that it doesn't look like a sleeper, the centerline rims and interior modifications make it too sporty, it looks more like a drag. I would keep the interior mods but put widened (spelling???) stock rims with slick tires. Just my

I LOVE it! I have wanted to do something similar with the tammy ghia, but I ended up going with a mild street build..ehh, yours will look MUCH better than mine, I'm sure.

i AGREE, USE THE STEEL WHEELS, BUT IT IS YOUR MODEL, SO USE WHAT YOU LIKE BEST, but i beg to differ, if i saw a beetle around on the streets, id go and race it right away, while fully aware that my toyota celica is about to get owned , but this is awsome,

Re: '66 Sleeper Beetle Turbo

This looks amazing. The old Beetles are utterly cool, and this is 200% cooler than any I've seen yet in real life. The engine is a perfect and very proper choice. I can't wait to see this beast finished.

Widened Steelies FTW!! but even if you don't use those, this will still look great, awesome idea too, and great execution. Keep up the great work.

Re: '66 Sleeper Beetle Turbo

This is great, I do like the chrome wheels but I think the steelies would set it off.

Re: '66 Sleeper Beetle Turbo

Steelies in place, widened tamiya rims back, stock gunze rims with tamiya caps in front. Also added monstergauge on dashboard.

Made safetank and place for battery to boot.
