Grounding problem - Not starting - nothing - used to be able to attach jumper cables to battery with other end on ground and would start right up.
had new starter installed in late of 05. problem continues. Just had air condition checked because it quit and serp belt replaced. Have been thru security light coming on - replaced keys - alt. starter, battery, all test good
but when trying to start car for last 3 days cranks and all lights flash like
an alarm and yet all systems test good. computer reads nothing. I used to work on chevys myself before computers chips but i know more about the problem than mechanics do and they are not listening. Car also won't start to a jump to battery or starter.
Anybody aware of this problem please forward advise. Right now everyone
is afraid to work on it becuse they could make it worse and don't want to be responsible for the outcome. This 3800 V-6 engine is a beaty 129,000 and not one leak leaves other cars in dust.

check both battery cables for corrosion at the battery (not only where they mount to the battery but where the end is crimped on and down to where the insulation starts) and the ground cable for looseness or fraying where it bolts to the subframe and to the engine. You may have to remove the air filter and tube to gain access.

Thank you so much. I did not even think of that. However I did find a remote starter that was installed before I bought it and really think that is my problem because the car tries to start without key. I do not think it was deactivated correctly or never at all disconnected. A security system was also installed and removed but the indicator remains. Having remote removed and will now also make sure cables at other end are ok. But the battery is really strong (no dimming of any lights while trying to start). will let you know
when known.

I used to run into that when I drove the tow truck...some would have an old security system with starter interrupt that had not been properly disabled or the new owner did not have a remote and wasn't aware of the feature...something would set it into lockout mode and it wouldn't start...most have to be cycled with the remote before they reset...

I'd just lay a screwdriver across the terminals on the starter and force it to crank, then have them bring it to the shop and chase down the interrupt circuit and remove it...

no need. the security system had NOT been disabled now it is gone and so is remote starter. Car is just great now thanks to everyone that responded to me. can you believe it only cost 48.04. I have found a really good honest mechanic and am so happy.
