air cond. cold passanger side not driver

just as the title says..I did a search and one post said that the refrigerant is low and that is what would cause this. anyone confirm?
also - my dad is a certified a/c guy for the past oh i dont know 30 years in r-12,r-20, 410A, etc and thinks he can get some gauges to do the recharge himself. is this a wise decision or should i take her in? he will know what to do and such..but is the procedure hard? any tips, tricks, or help?
thanks in advance.. as always i heart AF and the internet

Nope.....you don't have a refrigerant problem....sounds more like a solenoid problem. Read this.......

The thread referenced above only applies to the automatic/dual climate control. If you have manual a/c, then it's most likely low on refrigerant.

if you got the gauges you can do it yourself. Just last weekend i topped up all my familys vehicles myself. Its easy and safe as long as you know what your doing.

Re: air cond. cold passanger side not driver

I agree with the dual zone auto climate control Ern. My car has it, and when set to auto, the car never cools off/warms up quick enough. I thought it would be awesome so I wouldn't have to roast because the Mrs is freezing (when it's 80 degrees in the car). The thought of her having her own temp zone was like a dream come true, but the reality didn't live up to my expectations. With the proper equipment and know how, you can recharge your own a/c, but it's not as simple as buying one of those kits from Wally-world. A/C system pressure changes with outside temp, so a generic low-side only guage doesn't tell you much. You need to compare low side and high side pressure readings to insure you have no system blockages and/or leaks.
