Control arm/Tie rod

Not sure what the difference is but heres my problem.
when backing out of a parking spot and turning the wheel theres a cracking sound coming from the front end some where.
Sounds like the front left but after going back and forth in the driveway a few times I can't pin point exactly where its coming from.
I've looked at the connections and checked for play on the front end but everything looks fine.
How do I determine whats causing this?

Re: Control arm/Tie rod

Check the following:

the stabilizer bar for cracks or worn bushings/links

the lower control arm bushings toward the front of the car (the one where the bolt goes through vertically)

the caliper bracket bolts where they mount to the spindle to see if they're loose.

Re: Control arm/Tie rod

Yeah I definitely agree about checking the lower control arm as well as the bushing and ball joint on the arm. I was hearing similar things and low and behold ended up changing the entire control arm, bushing, and ball joint the other week.
