Making Rims (experimental) & some 1/24 bits

Don't know if this thread belongs here as it's not a complete kit. Some attempts at making rims. Materials are a mix of sculpting clay, epoxy putty & basic putty.

The mould used for disck brakes. The master's on the left, replicated piece on the right, flash not removed & yet to be sanded down.

Converted a Fujimi 17" into deep-dish.

Made a mould for one-side of the rim.

edit: pics placement.

Re: Making Rims (experimental)

Option of deep-dish or normal off-set. Outer rim made from 0.5mm pla cards.

Test-fitting it.

That's it till later, still gotta touch-up the disc brakes & patch up some hairline cracks. Tks for looking.

edit: pics placement.

Re: Making Rims (experimental)

To protrude the rims, i used a piece of sprue of similar diameter to the center of the mould & pushed it outwards, from the rear. Modeling Clay(oven-bake to harden) & epoxy putty(4-8hours) as you probably know, doesn't harden immediately, hence it's possible to push/protrude the rims whilst in its partially-hardened state(for epoxy putty approximately 2hrs). hth

Re: Making Rims (experimental)

In-between the rims, did a little on a 1/24 Driver Figure(tamiya). Split the head, hands, arms, torso & one foot at the joints.

Original pose. Changed pose: gear-shift, head facing to the side, parts are moveable.

Original pose. Heel & Toe position.

Later.

Re: Making Rims (experimental)

The orange material is Modeling Clay similar to Super Sculpey & has to be oven-baked to dry, harden & can be sanded, however, primer has to be layed-on quite thick before spraying on colors. The yellow-ish material is Tamiya Epoxy Putty. Minute, finer details could not be captured (probably didn't press it down hard enough) such as the embossed Brembo font on the disc brakes. For mould release, grease was brushed-on.

This isn't really casting, more like replicating using finger-pressure & suitable for small parts, saw it in a Mecha forum & gave it a go. 2-part liquid resin would still be ideal & less of a hassle IMHO. hth

edit: spelling.

Some alterations to a 1/24 anime figurine for a racequeen Dio. Seperated the head, removed the hair.

Trying out different hair-styles.

Tks for viewing, till later.

Last version of the 'hair'.

Test-fit the rims, primed 'em & the disc brakes.
