99 gtp SUPERCHARGER HELP

After a trip to the mechanic, he told me that there was a blown seal on the supercharger. He then told me to let the car go unless I wanted to replace the supercharger. Is this correct? I really dont trust the mech. or the dealership b/c of bad expierences from both. Could 1 seal cause so much trouble? Im not mech. inclined so I need help. One more question, is there an illistration to where the oil goes in the charger? I got a bad feeling that the mech has been taken my wallet for a painfull ride. Please help me out community. This dream car has been nothing but a nitemare!!!!!! Im sitting on 120k miles and on my 2nd supercharge r!

Re: 99 gtp SUPERCHARGER HELP

Welcome to AF.

What specific problem are you having as far as driveability? How was it determined the blower has a bad seal? Link below shows the location of the plug on the snout so you can extract the SC oil. Located at our Tips & Maintenance subforum.

Re: 99 gtp SUPERCHARGER HELP

I took it in to do the yearly inspection and had the mechanic check the oil levels. As far as drivability, it hasn't affected the performance. I am going by what this tech told me. It makes like a small internal rattle. Thats all it really does. I just replaced the tensioner pulley tonite.

Re: 99 gtp SUPERCHARGER HELP

I not going to make any comments about your mechanic other than he doesn't know much about Eaton M90 blowers. The rattling sound is typically caused by a worn out/defective coupler. It DOES NOT require replacement of the complete supercharger.

You can get an improved coupler here to include other parts like snout seals, bearings and the GM supercharger oil. The work can be done DIY and alot cheaper.

The procedure to replace the coupler is in the prior link I posted.
