question about key clutch....
I am going to be putting on that steadfast security collar to go around the ignition, it came with its own clutches and the instructions say to pry off the little shiney peice where you put your thumb and finger on when you turn the key. does that just pry off or is there some type of clip that has to be released with it somehow? i want to do this right without breaking anything

Re: question about key clutch....
http://www.steadfastautosecurity.com/steadfast.pdf if this is the product you have it looks like it snaps off and is replaced by there part to compleat the install. in the past when that chrome piece is popped off its broke. what i haved used is a hidden switch under the dash that disconnects the 12vdc wire to the distributor preventing the car from starting. cost 3-4 $ look on the thiefs face priceless. 463

Re: question about key clutch....
i agree with 463 it looks like it can be removed after installed. i personally have the lockiit, comlumm lock and i was told i would not be able to remove it and i was. it is still around the column only problem is tha i lost the piece that enages to it that wraps into the steering wheel.

Re: question about key clutch....
Yeah sorry for the delay, I was talking about the collar... I don't understand how a collar around the steering column could help to protect against vehicle theft. Is it simply to keep the column from getting smashed?

Yes, it prevents access to the locking mechanism. I am sure you've seen pictures (or even the real thing) where a column was broken to gain access to the rack/gear which allows one to start and drive the vehicle with the key in the lock position. This collar reduces that risk by adding "armor" to the column.

Re: question about key clutch....
My grandfather's Caprice was stolen that way. They smashed the window, then the steering column the the trunk latch and whatever they kept in the trunk smashed out the walls of the trunk as they drove. This was back 13 years ago... the car's been long gone since then.
